Multiracial Apparel was designed to bring awareness and pride for those who identify as multiracial and/or multiethnic. It is the first company of its kind to celebrate mixed race people and families. Other identities we explore through our clothing line include those who are involved in interracial relationships, as well as transracial adoptees and their families. Most other clothing lines cater to just single identities, such as African American, Asian American, Latino, and Native American. Because of this lack of representation for multiracial and/or multiethnic people and their families, we decided to celebrate this experience through a series of slogans, logos, and other terms that capture our shared identities. We believe this will help foster a greater appreciation for diversity in a multicultural society.
In the 2000 U.S. Census, people were able to check more than one racial category for the first time, with over seven million doing so. This is a clear testimony to the growing multiracial/multiethnic population in the U.S. and its desire to have representation. The goal of Multiracial Apparel is to provide clothing to address these experiences and share them with the world. In doing so, we hope to redefine existing ideas about racial and ethnic identity. Our philosophy is to create a brand name that celebrates the multiplicity of individuals and our society in all its diversity, who range in all ages and come from walks of life. As part of our commitment to represent our experiences in a positive way, Multiracial Apparel works with a Board of Advisors, who are experts in the field of multiracial and multiethnic identity |
